About Norma

Norma Chang, The Travelling Gourmet®, is a food lover who enjoys sharing her skills and ideas with others through her many food related activities. Norma believes that cooking should be fun and that the food we prepare should not only be good for you, but should look and taste good too. This philosophy is reflected in her cookbooks, demonstrations and programs.

Norma has loved food and cooking since she was a child growing up in Jamaica and mainland China. After experiencing different parts of the world, she eventually settled in New York City where she was further exposed to the flavors and foods of different cultures that have continued to influence her cooking throughout the years.

After moving to New York’s Hudson Valley where she still lives today, Norma refined her recipes using family and friends as willing guinea pigs. After successful forays into the catering and food service businesses Norma decided to focus on sharing her knowledge through teaching. She authored a food column for the Poughkeepsie Journal and her articles have appeared in numerous other publications.

After the publication of her cookbooks, My Students' Favorite Chinese Recipes and Wokking Your Way to Low Fat Cooking, Norma created a series of cultural programs that incorporate her time-tested recipes and Asian culture into fun, informative and delicious experiences. These programs have become extremely popular, attracting countless attendees from all over New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and New England.

Norma is a master gardener specializing in Asian vegetables and organic gardening and incorporates her crops into her menus for family and friends.
